New guide available to adapt sexual health and goal-setting curricula to different youth populations

Child Trends researchers have developed a guide that enables facilitators of the El Camino program—an adolescent sexual health program for Latino teens—to better serve their target youth populations through curriculum adaptations while still retaining the core components of the curriculum.

The El Camino Adaptation Guide provides facilitators and curriculum implementers with the tools and resources to guide them in making appropriate adaptations to El Camino, an adolescent sexual health promotion curriculum, while maintaining program fidelity. Acceptable adaptations include updated statistics, the use of content warnings and safe spaces for students, and extended sessions to allow more time for questions. Many program facilitators adapt curricula to better serve their youth populations, and this guide will help them make adaptations in line with curriculum core components that will not jeopardize potential benefits to youth.
