Folks from the Center for Leadership Education in Maternal and Child Public Health and MCH Student Interest Group (MCHSIG) want to get to know you!
We'll meet at 12:45 pm outside of HSEC 4-101. A MCHSIG member, Center staff or faculty member will lead the group for a short 30-45 minute walk. The leaders of today's walk are Sara Benning and Dr. Bonilla.
We'll venture outside when the weather permits and use the Gopher Way when it doesn't. Students can reserve a locker in the SPHERE if they'd like to secure their items while we walk.
This is an informal opportunity for MCHers to build community, network, ask questions, and build leadership skills. Second year MCH students will also be invited. We hope you'll join us!

Learning Lab Series: Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Qualitative Research with Dr. Michael Beckstrand
October 15, 2026 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Come explore the ever evolving landscape of generative AI usage in qualitative research. This Bright Spots Mini-Lab session guides researchers through both the ethical and practical implementation of generative AI across the qualitative research process. Participants will also learn effective prompting techniques, discuss guidelines for responsible practice, and consider the utility of chat bots like Gemini versus both more programmatic uses and built-in AI features within qualitative analysis software.
Participants will be able to:
1) Navigate both ethical and practical limitations to using generative AI in a peer-reviewed qualitative research setting
2) Evaluate the strengths and trade-offs of different AI platforms to select the appropriate tool across various stages of the qualitative research process
3) Apply good practices for effective prompting strategies for various tasks, and gain exposure to different tools and techniques
