Student Opportunities

RAships, Deployments & Other Funded Positions

The Center funds 2-4 RAships (including one doctoral student), ~20 Center-funded deployments and other time-limited or project-specific Center positions.

Incoming MCH students (fall 2024): Announcements about Center-funded opportunities are typically made available mid- to-late summer, and emailed to incoming and current students’s UMN email accounts. Check your UMN email over the summer so you don’t miss out! You can get a sneak peak about what positions will be available here.

Opportunities that come up throughout the year are advertised in our monthly MCH student eNewsletters and via the listserv.

Due to funding restrictions, Center opportunities are strictly for UMN MCH students who are eligible to work in the US (citizen of the US or a foreign national having in their possession a visa permitting permanent residence in the US, or a non-citizen national). Read the FAQ page carefully before applying.

Other paid University positions can be found on the UMN’s Human Resource job site and the UMN SPH job board.

Emerging MCH Leaders Skills Institute

Launched in Fall 2021, the Institute builds MCH students’ professional skills and MCH competency knowledge.

Maternal and Child Health Student Interest Group (MCHIG)

The MCHIG was created for students to have a space to discuss MCH related topics, issues, and get involved with community service. Any UMN student with an interest in MCH is welcome to join!

Please email sphmchig @ umn.edu for more information or to join.

The National MCH Trainee Blog

The student-led national MCH Trainee Blog is promoted by the Center. It helps connect MCH students from all thirteen HRSA-funded COEs and five Catalyst Programs by providing an outlet for them to share their research and community engagement experiences.

Monthly posts are written by students on one of the 12 MCH competencies, which provides concrete examples of students’ knowledge and skill sets around a specific core competency. The blog also provides links to MCH leadership competency assessment and trainings (through the Navigator), to resources (such as CoE student groups and MCHB’s Trainee Ambassador Group), and to webpages and resources.

Email mchlead1 @ gmail.com if you’re an MCH student interested in contributing a post and creating a stronger national network of future professionals.

MCH Orientation

Center students, faculty and staff look forward to providing MCH students with an orientation to the Center, and sharing resources available exclusively for MCH students, during the MCH Program orientation on August 23, 2023!
