The Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Prevention Institute created this publication to describe research about the connections between different forms of violence and how they impact communities.
Research finds that people who experience or are exposed to one form of violence are more likely to be a victim of other forms of violence or to inflict harm on others. In order to break these cycles, stakeholders in communities must learn about risk factors and protective factors of various forms of violence provided in this overview. The publication also includes a chart that quantifies the association between specific risk factors and types of violence perpetration based on research.
