Abstract:
As a home visiting intern with the Healthy Families America (HFA) home visiting program in Ramsey County, I advanced my skills and fulfilled competencies in the areas of program development and facilitation, family engagement, and health communication. The complex cultural influences and historical trauma of the target population unlocked an exciting opportunity to bridge intergenerational trauma research to an evidence-based home visiting curriculumused to promote positive parenting practices inrefugee families. Consequently, two products were created to facilitate home visiting practice and help train nurses new to working with families with complex histories. Furthermore, my experience was extremely valuable to my education and inspired program recommendations for increased support to practioners in the field.
