Please join us for the February 19th Mini-Lab, Digital Storytelling with Dr. Abby Lohr, where Dr. Lohr will guide participants through the method of digital storytelling and its potential for public health application and beyond. We’ll learn how this creative method has proved useful in Dr. Lohr’s community-based chronic disease research. We will also explore best practices surrounding ethical implementation, how to strengthen community partnership, and how to get the most out of this technique. Free, virtual, & open to all!
This month, #UMNMCH student Ruth Dele-Oni (MPH 2026), shares how her deployment with Hennepin County’s Baby Tracks Team has enabled critical research regarding vaccine hesitancy among the Somali population in Minnesota. In this piece, Ruth shares her drive for closing BIPOC maternal and child health (MCH) equity gaps. Also highlighted this month is #UMNMCH student Kara Cowell (MPH 2026). Read her reflection on how her work co-leading the Minnesota Menstrual Equity Toolkit Project has connected her previous policy and health research work to public health practice.

Mahek Zaveri MPH student from the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health, is the December feature of MCH Leads. In her blog entry, titled “The Mothers Who Shaped My Public Health Future,” Mahek applies MCH Competency 5 (Communication) and 7 (Creating Responsive and Effective MCH Systems) to her experiences as a dentist in India.
